Celebrate Your Strengths

Have you ever noticed that many of our holidays are around the celebration of our deeper values and strengths? When we honor President's day,  we honor the George Washington and Abraham Lincoln for their strengths of leadership. Memorial day honors those who have died in service to our country.  All are examples where people have followed their higher values. 

Holidays can be an opportunity for you to celebrate the higher values and strengths in your life too. 
Everyone has them.  They give deep meaning to your life. It is very gratifying to take time to acknowledge them. First discover them within yourself. You will know when you are connecting with your special strengths and values because enjoy using them.  What are the activities you enjoy the most? Consider taking time to write them down.

When you are in your strengths you experience flow, feel enthusiastic, and excited. You tend to create special projects around them.  You will be more able to follow your vibes, honor your intuition, and take bigger risks. This is your deeper connection with your essential self. When you invest your time and energy in these qualities, your relationships get better. Why? The more you discover the life sources within yourself, the more you will love yourself and the more you will see life and love in others. Now isn't that attractive? 

Creating a Fresh Start: "Fired" or Inspired

As the economy tanks, the worst two words one wants to hear is "Your Fired."  While getting fired or losing a job is very difficult,  it also is an opportunity to create a fresh start.  Instead of struggling with "Your Fired," become inspired.  As our financial institutions have collapsed, so has the story that money is the measure of happiness, health, and wealth. Here are three tips for making a change. 

1) Take a moment to honor your strengths. Also note the strengths of your friends, family and community. It is our deeper values and strengths that pull us through difficult times.  Reflect on those strengths that are important to you and to those in your life.  Then share with others what you appreciate.  When you do so, you also will better appreciate yourself.

2) Recognize that the problem is not entirely yours.  It also is the economic system. We are discovering that an economy that is based on the belief that money is the true measure of wealth no longer works.  Instead, economist, David Korten, and co-founder of Yes! magazine says the true measures of wealth are healthy children, families, communities and ecological systems.  I would agree.

3) Speak up so that our economy is accountable to the people, not the reverse.  Favor local businesses that honor community values and serve community needs.  Your actions count. The consistent small
actions of each of us help to create a tipping point for change.  

When one door closes, another door opens.  Connect with others, network, and find creative ways to get around the difficulties with the economy.  Get leads from those around you, and brainstorm projects and solutions. When you are in your strengths and supported by others, you will discover what to do.  Our economic challenge is an opportunity to create a story that better serves life.

Creating a Fresh Start in Your Relationships: Nourishing The Seeds

Each year gives us an opportunity to create new visions and new plans, particularly in our
relationships.  Sometimes, our current relationships may bring new stages of growth. Other times, we may recognize that a relationship has served its unique purpose and may need to close. Here are three tips that you might want to consider in facilitating your relationship growth.

1)  Recognize that you and every person you have come to know deserves the very best.  Each person is born to be cherished, loved, and adored. Just like each kind of seed needs its own unique conditions for optimum growth, so does each person need its own unique kinds of nourishment.  Each person has their own unique passions, path, and preferences for successful relating. We need to honor them.

2)  Acknowledge what you have learned from the people who have come into your life.  Each person brings an opportunity for our growth and personal perfection.  When we experience negative emotions, they can be shifted to the positive through forgiveness. When we honor the positive growth, we will bring more of  the positive in our life.  What you focus on expands. For example, a breakup in a relationship may bring a feeling of abandonment.  At the same time, a breakup also brings new freedom, and an opportunity for a new start.  Be sure to acknowledge the positive in the past, because then it can continue to support you.

3)  Make a space for new growth. Just as a seed needs a space for growth, so does a relationship.  We need to clear out the old roots that may interfere with new growth and have a vision for the future.  Nourish your growth by creating an unoccupied visual space. For example, you might want to make a vision board.  Go through magazines and check out what resonates with you. Then place them on a board where you can see it.  What would a healthy relationship look like to you?  How would it feel?  If there are any blocks, release them.  All will help to create a new path to attract positive growth.
